Swapneswar Sundar Ray: Building Enterprise AI That Can Be Trusted

For most large organisations, the hard part of generative AI is no longer the demonstration. It is everything that comes after: making the system reliable, secure and auditable enough to run inside a business that cannot afford to get things wrong. Swapneswar Sundar Ray, an AI systems engineering leader based in the United States, has built his work around that problem. He is a nominee in the Artificial Intelligence category of the TPC Awards 2026.

From experiment to production

Ray has more than 15 years of experience in enterprise technology, leading the design of scalable platforms, cloud-native architectures, API ecosystems and AI-driven systems for large organisations. He is currently Assistant Vice President in AI Systems Engineering at a major US bank.

His recent focus has been AI-assisted API platforms: systems that check and correct API specifications, make context-aware recommendations, generate working sandbox environments automatically and create synthetic test data, so that partners and developers can integrate faster and more safely.

Governance first

What sets Ray's approach apart is where he starts. Rather than adding controls once an AI system is built, he designs for reliability, security, auditability and human oversight from the outset. He has developed and published original work on what he calls a Governance-Centric AI Orchestration Framework, on AI-governed autonomous API sandbox generation, and on an Enterprise AI Trust Score for measuring how far a production AI system can be relied upon. The same thinking runs through his work on hallucination management, observability, validation and rollback.

According to his nomination, the AI-assisted API initiatives he has led or contributed to over the past two years have been associated with a reduction of around 60% in integration-related costs, a 45% improvement in partner and developer onboarding time, a 70% reduction in ongoing maintenance effort and 42% fewer integration failures.

Beyond the day job

Ray is an active voice in the wider engineering community. He is an IEEE Senior Member and the author of Enterprise Transformation with AI and Gen AI, as well as a second book on generative AI and retrieval-augmented generation systems. He writes for industry publications including SD Times and Platform Engineering, reviews and judges technical work, and has assessed more than 100 innovation and technology submissions across international programmes.

In July 2026 he received AI150 recognition at MachineCon USA in New York for his contributions to enterprise AI. In November he is due to speak at Enterprise AI World 2026 on measuring the return on investment, adoption and business value of AI.

Responsible AI that delivers

Ray's case rests on a combination that enterprise AI still too often lacks: measurable operational gains, delivered alongside the safeguards that make large organisations willing to adopt the technology in the first place.
